Sweet Little Desk

I am a kijiji fiend! I love hunting for treasures and have found a great many of them. Mostly I hunt for good deals on baby things- There is seriously SOOO much like-new stuff that people are just desperate to get rid of. Today, however was not about baby stuff... we finally found a new desk! We have wanted a wood desk with drawers to replace a glass one we have had for several years, but we were quite particular in our search as it had to be small enough to fit a predetermined space, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. We found this one- a beautiful antique, solid and with more drawers than we know what to do with for a bargain! I have been daydreaming about giving it a fresh new paint job- its a bit banged up and scuffed around the edges, but i love the character it has, and I am excited for the paint to highlight the years of love (and abuse) this little desk has endured. Now the question is- what colour should we paint it?

hair do

I recently cut off ALL my hair. I had been growing it since before I got pregnant with Finn, but found after he was born, it just got really dry, started falling out in clumps and did not want to do much for me. In total, I cut off over 11", but felt I was definitely due for a drastic change! And besides, whats the fun in having hair if it's not to cut it all off, grow it all out again, repeat... repeat... repeat?

I must admit, I much prefer myself with lighter hair- and not just because I was shopping with Finn and my BFF Stephanie (a blonde babe) a few months back and a cashier said to us "I can tell who your mommy is!" all the while looking straight at Steph! And having it short cuts down on SO much "getting ready" time. A welcome change for a Mama with a toodler who does not yet sleep through the night!

Toboggan Robin

Today was such a nice day! We spent most of it cleaning the yard, planting veggies, herbs and flowers and enjoying the nice weather. Every spring I look forward to pulling EVERYTHING off the patio, giving it a major clean, and then reorganizing everything back in to its new fresh spot. Today however, I noticed someone new had moved in over the last several weeks- right on top of the toboggan Jeff gave me for Christmas a few years back.

I feel so bad that we probably have the craziest house on the block for this poor robin. All afternoon I have seen her swoop in, only to see her fly back out a few minutes later when Chapeau starts barking, Finn starts banging on the screen door, or someone is coming or going through our yard. I hope that the hustle and bustle of our little family isn't too much for this poor mama and her little one. I sat and watched her this afternoon as she intently peered over her nest from a near by tree- I said to Jeff that I so badly wished I could tell her it is all ok- that we will let them be in peace. Since having Finn, all things mother/baby related make me a little teary, so this was no exception. I just hope everything goes ok- I have been reading a bit about robins- they only lay one egg a day as they only have one ovary- usually laying between 3 and 5 eggs per cluthch. It will be interesting to see how many our robin ends up having. Two weeks from now, the babies will start to hatch, and we will have to come up with a new game plan for our yard- My parents had a robin make a nest on a wreath on their front door several years back. she had three little ones, and once they hatched, she would divebomb anyone that tried to come or go from their front door. Needless to say, we convinced my Mom that barricading the area off and use the garage or back door for the two weeks until the babies left the nest. I can only imagine the trouble Chapeau will get into once those little babies start chirping. Oh nature!

Bike Bike!

I finally got a new bike! I have had many (MANY!) bikes throughout the past few years, but all have been vintage or 'fixer- uppers' which, for me, never met my need for a commuter friendly bike- something to get me to and from work without showing up soaking wet and out of breathe. I have been hunting for the perfect little bike... Searching blogs, checking out the hipster bike couriers, and imagining what this dream bike would look like for a very long time- and actually, it wasn't even me that found my special little friend- it was Jeff! He and my darling Finn took a trip over to Bike Bike yesterday to search out the perfect match. Jeff said as soon as he saw this one, he knew it was the one. And as soon as he showed me the pictures, I had to agree.

Welcome Lucy!

Spices and Tea~

My spice and tea cupboard has been bursting at the seems for far to long now, so last week i felt inspired to reorganize, purge and label everything. After a wonderful mothers day trip to Nanton- my most favourite antique hunting spot close to home, the wonderful cheese box I was searching for was found, and my tea and spice storage transformation was complete!

The Next Great Gelato Chef

Our dear friend James owns a company here in town called Fiasco Gelato that makes AMAZING handcrafted gelato and sorbetto. So incredibly delicious and fresh and a huge reason I still have 10lbs of 'baby weight' left to lose ;)  James asked my darling Jeff to take some pictures of him and his team in action, so of course, Finn tagged along and immediately got down to business.

Galore!

I have been so excited to get mail these passed few days! I ordered a few really wonderful things from etsy - most of which i cant share right now as they are for a special little boys upcoming birthday! but I did get an adorable little herb sign to tuck sweetly in our garden, a new pair of glasses that were next to free thanks to some online friends spreading the word about e-coupons, and a sweet little belated birthday gift from my sweet little Paula! It's been quite the eventful week!

Cute hand-felted owl in his new home!

We have a wonderful weekend ahead of us- filled with checking out the new farmers market, quiche baking, brunch with my mom and grandma for mothers day, and an antique hunt in Nanton- I'm desperate to find an old cheese box to store some of my tea collection in- it will complete to reorganization transformation of our spice/ tea cupboard. I promise to share more on that when I find this box:
