'aries are often moody, short tempered, impulsive and impatient. nothing will stand in their way if they can help it. they’ve got heaps of physical energy and are very competitive. aries have strong opinions and are not afraid to voice them. it’s not all bad though– aries make fantastic friends, great leaders and good politicians. they love to root for the underdog and often passionately immerse themselves in a cause. they’re independent, friendly, enthusiastic, generous and optimistic.'
so basically, i live with a bossy, demanding, must-be-right, opinionated maniac.
(though in all fairness, i should disclose that i too am an aries. fun times at the thorburn house!)
everyone talks about the 'terrible twos', but honestly, i have yet to meet anyone that does not agree that three is FAR more difficult than two ever was. couple this trying age with finn's star-destined stubbornness, and we have definitely had our hands full.
but i can't help but feel like the new year has started off with some noteworthy breakthroughs. three to be exact.
1- bed time has always been a bit of a struggle around here. last year in the chaos of moving, finn got in the habit of having me lay with him until he fell asleep. one year later, and he was still demanding 'mommy sleep with me'. every.single.night. but new years day we talked about a new routine- he would stay in bed and we would come wave and blow kisses from the door every few minutes until he fell asleep. and it has worked incredibly well ever since.
2- mornings are typically a medium sized ordeal. finn isn't usually keen on getting dressed and was going through a very long phase of absolutely refusing to wear anything new (despite having outgrown most of the old). but these last few days have been amazing! pleasant even. he has willingly been trying on and wearing new clothes, and our mornings have been tear-free.
3 - finn has been trying a few new foods, which is MAJOR progress as this has been my biggest struggle the last couple of years- today was the first day in a long time that i breathed a sigh of relief knowing he got enough good food with some actual nutritional value attached. and he didn't eat his weight in crackers like most other days.
i'm not sure what has shifted, but i kind of feel like we are living with a new child. and yes, i realize that i have totally jinxed it now that i have verbalized it.
